In the Season 2 Episode 3, the FBI fearing that her cover would be blown, asks Ellen to put a stop to her investigations before Patty starts suspecting her intentions. However, she ignores the warnings and continues her investigations as she is determined to find out the truth about Patty and Daniel’s past relationship. She then learns about David being Patty’s expert witness in two of her previous trials, the first one was held seventeen years ago. She also learns from Patty that the two had a relationship when they met for the first time. This also leads Ellen to belief that Daniel is the father of Patty’s son, Michael. Meanwhile, when Daniel’s wife’s murder investigations indicate towards domestic violence, Patty asks him to undertake the polygraph test. She also gets Daniel arrested, while he is trying to leave the country, so that he is forced to retain her as his lawyer. Ellen’s is called up by her dead husband’s sister who wants Ellen to meet her and her boyfriend. Meanwhile a reporter investigating water toxicity for Purcell is attacked by Kendrick’s goons who take away his cell phone and camera. Later a man pawns the ruby ring belonging to Daniel’s dead wife.
